Our Response to Legislation Changes in Queensland

As you may know, the Queensland Government are making changes to rental laws, some of which will be put into effect from May 1st, 2025.

We understand that this may be a stressful time for you and your business, and we’re here to help. InspectRealEstate and Reapit, with our strong product, legal and development teams, are working together to ensure compliance with this new legislation.

We are currently preparing to update 2Apply to ensure your compliance with the upcoming legislation changes. While new details have emerged recently, certain parts of the legislation are still pending confirmation. Rest assured, we are actively monitoring these developments.

Below is an overview of the anticipated changes we plan to implement before May 1st, 2025. Please note that these updates are subject to change, and will only be implemented in your system after May 1st, 2025.

Preliminary Overview of Changes to 2Apply ahead of May 1st, 2025

As of Thursday, April 3rd, 2025

Removal/ disabling of the following fields:

  • Rent price editing
  • Dependant’s name and age
  • Gender
  • Being a smoker
  • Student status
  • Reason for leaving past rental property
  • Company address
  • Vehicle registration number

Removal of mandatory status for the following fields/ application questions:

  • Pet name
  • Animal living situation
  • Is your pet house trained?

Adjustments to documents & categories:

Approved document categories will include the following:

  • Identification documents;
  • Financial documents;
  • General documents.

Applicants will be required to submit at least one (1) document in the Identification and Financial document categories, with the option to add more should the applicant wish to do so. There will be no mandatory requirements for General documents.

There will also be an option for an applicant to provide their identification for sighting only if they so choose.

Changes to approved financial information requests:

While applicants will still be able to add multiple current employment, only current employment information will be requested. A section of the application form will remain for applicants to add additional income (e.g. Centrelink payments) or indicate whether they are paying rent by other means (e.g. savings).

Applications questions & forms:

The ‘Agent Questions’ tab will no longer be available to you when customising your 2Apply form, as these questions are not part of the new standardised Queensland application form.

We will also be implementing a warning page when an applicant first decides to apply for a property, where they will be asked whether they would like to continue with the 2Apply form or if they would like to download and use the standardised form instead. Additionally, there will be a new setting which will allow you to choose whether or not to display the option for an applicant to use the standardised form.
